Mission

The mission of the Great Midwestern Educational Theatre Company is to promote learning and engage the creative spirit in children of all ages by presenting relevant, thought-and-emotion provoking experiences in the theatre arts.

Target Audience

The target audience includes families and schools within a 60-mile radius of the Mississippi river Tri-State juncture, including rural areas in Northeastern Iowa, Southwestern Wisconsin and Northwestern Illinois.

About the Artistic Director

Founding artistic director, Amy Ressler, leads the company with over 20 years of experience working with children, in education and theatre. [Vitae]  She holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in Child Drama and is an award-winning, gifted storyteller, playwright and director.  Originally from Iowa, Amy cultivated her theatre talents in Chicago where she was an associate professor of theatre and education at National-Louis University for 12 years. Amy also worked at the Kennedy Center and Smithsonian Discovery Theatres in Washington, D.C., Phoenix Children’s Theatre and Mesa Youtheatre in Arizona, and in Chicago with the Illinois Theatre Association, Chicago Children’s Theatre, North Park Opera, Light Opera Works, CUBE, Wild Onion Storytelling Festival, Betty Weeks Storytelling Conference, Kohl McCormick StoryBus and many others.  In the Tri-State area, Amy is known for her work with the Grand Opera House, the University of Wisconsin Platteville’s Heartland festival, Fly-By-Night Theatre and Shullsburg High School.  In the fall of 2007, she will join the full time faculty at the University of Dubuque as associate professor in the newly-formed department of Fine and Performing Arts.
